hi, welcome to Rockies Disaster Report. This is really just a test post, but I will mention a few things we're not happy with that happened on Monday:
1. Rockies lost 9-3, snapping a 4-game winning streak, the longest of the season.
2. Clint Barmes feel down some stairs on Sunday and broke his collarbone. On monday, he was placed on the 60-day DL, and will be out for at least that long.
3. Skip's little girl was back in the hospital. We're praying for her and Clint's family.
Anyhow, we'll be back soon with daily commentary.

Hi, folks ... no need to worry that the illustrious Dodger front office (sarcasm thoroughly intended) is planning to spirit Helton away from the Rox. Owner Frank McCourt and GM Paul DePodesta -- "McBankrupt" and "Stupidesta" to long-time Dodger fans -- have just tied up a boatload of moolah in signing Sitrick and Co., a major TinselTown public-relations firm, to spin each and every one of their disastrous moves made since July 2004. According to a major entertainment magazine quoted in the Los Angeles Times, Allen Mayer, the leading force behind Sitrick, is "the man to call if you're a star facing scandal." Add that to the egregious combination of newly rowdy lunkheads (e.g. "fun-lovin' young fans") AND reduced stadium security at Dodger Stadium, and you've got a couple of fellas with more issues to deal with than putting together a winning team. (Last I heard, the Dodgers lost out big time on the Placido Polanco sweeptstakes ...)
Hah, tough luck for them. Nonetheless, the old, boring fans still talk up quite a storm about bringing Helton over there. The one good thing that this ownership has done is signing Helton to that 9-year deal a while back and making him a lifetime Rockie. It's really the only reason to go to the ballpark now that Barmes is down and out.

Hi, Gabe! Wish I could attribute McBankrupt's and Stupidesta's moves to pure dumb luck. Quite honestly, they're decisions made from unfettered idiocy and unchecked egos. And Helton is a franchise player through and through, someone Rox fans should be proud to call their own. Props to Rockie management for signing him to that long-term deal. (What the anemic Dodger lineup would be like by now had the Rox let Helton walk, and he signed with the Blue ...)

We're all glad to have him as a franchiser too, and despite the fact that he's not winning anything, Helton has continually stated that he likes being THE veteran, go-to guy in the clubhouse, something he's not gonna get anywhere else for a while.
Hopefully, he can help turn these kids into a successful nucleus. I think we've got a good bunch of players who like working together on the field...I just think our pitching needs some help. Maybe that's somewhere where McBankrupt and Stupidesta can help us...they certainly have more pitching brains than we do.
